I am running to become your next Georgia Court of Appeals Judge.
I have been part of this community for many years, working tirelessly to make it a better place.
I know the value of being connected. That's why I chose to run for this position. Help me help you.
I cannot win this race without your help. Supporting by word-of-mouth and donating are ways of helping us achieve our goals together.
I am a proud native of Georgia and a part-time Magistrate Judge for Cobb County, and in 2021, I launched a very successful mediation practice with Miles Mediation and Arbitration. I formerly served as an insurance defense counsel and assistant public defender. For the majority of my legal career, I have owned and operated a successful small law office, wherein we focus on helping individuals who are injured, injured consumers, and families with real estate needs. I am now a candidate for the newly opened seat on the Georgia Court of Appeals. I am running for the seat currently held by one of my mentors, Judge Yvette Miller, who chose not to seek reelection after serving for more than 25 years. Her dedication and unwavering commitment to the State of Georgia is impeccable.
I was born and raised in Moultrie, Georgia. My parents, Rev. C.L. Ponder, Jr. and Shirley Ponder, taught me the value of faith, hard work, and fairness. I strive to bring this to my work every day. My father served as a local pastor and faithfully in the Georgia Missionary Baptist Convention for over 35 years. He also is the only African-American to ever run for mayor in Moultrie. His many sacrifices taught me the importance of public service. After graduating from Colquitt County High School in 1992, I graduated from Albany State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1996. My Juris Doctorate was obtained from Mercer University School of Law in 1999.
I began my legal career as an Insurance Defense Attorney for Clyatt, Clyatt, & Golden in Valdosta, Georgia, and eventually served as an Indigent Defense Attorney for the Tift Judicial Circuit, both of which sharpened my focus on serving Georgia families. After working for a private firm and in public service, I decided to open my own law firm dedicated to serving a wider spectrum to the citizens of Georgia. I opened a firm in North and South Georgia and practice throughout the state.
I currently staff the Georgia Judicial Council’s Access to Justice Committee under the leadership of Justice Colvin. I continue to serve as a Special Master for Cobb County Superior Court and previously served my alma mater, Albany State University, for 7 years as a U.S. History & Georgia Government/Pre-Law Adjunct Professor.
I am a proud member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bar Association, the Cobb County Bar Association, the Cobb County Trial Lawyers Association, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (GTLA), and the Georgia Association for Black Women Attorneys (GABWA). I am also a Board Member of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL) where I serve on the Special Events Committee as co-chair. Additionally, I am a member of the Gate City Bar Association, the Cobb County NAACP, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
I am a passionate member of the Faith Christian Center in Austell, where I serve in the Youth Ministry. I enjoy spending time with my family, singing, and Latin dancing.
